It is Wednesday, August 29. Today I have met cikgu Kamal from the UK. He is a silat teacher (cikgu) for some time now and knows many forms of Silat. Indonesian as well as Malay Silat. (Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KanmaChukwu)
Together we have visited Amsterdam for the whole day. Most of the time we have talked about Silat in various nice places in Amsterdam.
Although there are many forms of Silat in the World (like any village can have their own style...) some basics are the same. From one style, a new style can be derived or blended in with some other styles. So it is very difficult to say when a style is original (asli) if that is even possible. Because if you co back in time, many martial arts are derived from other martial arts going back to... difficult to tell. One of the reasons is that martial arts in general go way back when writing down knowledge was not common, especially not for martial arts. Only a select group of students got to learn the true art. So although we are different, have different believes, the Silat bonds us together and that is really great!
We had some nice talks about the various Silat topics. My intention is to visit cikgu Kamal one day, and learn more about his Silat experiences and styles in his gelanggang in London.
And like me, cikgu Kamal is also a musician!
